Spring Cleaning

Happy Wednesday everyone,

This week has truly been a breath of fresh air. Everything is slowly working itself out and I can feel it.

Spring cleaning is real y’all. My family came to visit this weekend so I put on Beyonce’s Homecoming live album and cleaned the whole house! It was an amazing feeling having my family visit for the first time. My grandmother and mom love our place and the decorating we have done so far. Making our place feel comfortable and relaxing was on my 2019 vision board. It is important for me to create a safe haven, a happy place, a sanctuary Aaron and I can both enjoy coming home to every day. I believe we have succeeded in doing that.

Here’s a reminder of my 2019 vision board. I recently hung it up on the wall in our kitchen. It is important that I remind myself of my personal goals throughout the year. I do not want to be the person to make goals at the beginning of the year and forget about them the rest of the year.

Check in with your progress periodically.

So far so good. If I do say so myself.

On Easter Sunday, I did not make it to church but I continued my spring cleaning. I listened to gospel music all day while I handled business with Aaron. We did laundry together and he cooked shrimp and fish tacos while I changed the soil in my houseplants. For the past few months I had been noticing yellow mushrooms growing inside my plant pots. I read online that those mushrooms are fungus which meant that the soil was contaminated. The mushrooms were harmless to the plants so I would just pick them out when I saw them growing. Well we have been getting alot of gnats and fruit flies around the house lately. I noticed they were coming from my plants and I read that is another sign of fungus in the soil. So to clear away the mushrooms and the gnats I changed the soil Sunday. The house feels so much better. My plants are looking alot healthier as well.

My last few blog posts have been long and emotional. This week I’m going to keep it light. Let me just leave you all with this: Self care and mental wellness has a lot to do with cleansing our thoughts and clearing the energy surrounding us. I promise I will dedicate a full blog post to my anxiety class soon. The techniques I learned in class came up this week during a few conversations I had regarding relationships and friendships.

In my interactions lately I’ve had to remind myself that everything isn’t about me so don’t take it personal. Most times people project their unhappiest with themselves or their situation on to other people. Someone causing issues and not liking me for no good reason most times have nothing to do with me. Don’t take everything personal because alot of times it ain’t about you. It’s their personal problem.

I’ve let failed relationships and people not liking me dictate the way I see myself for too long. If something went wrong I would question who I am as a person, what kind of friend I am, how I love, how I talk, how I treat others, and how I present myself. I would think if I change myself people wouldn’t leave or wouldn’t mistreat me which is FALSE.

giphyYes, we all have room for improvement and areas we need to work on but never let someone make you feel bad about not being their idea of perfect. The sad truth is no matter how great you are miserable people will find something not to like about you. Do not change yourself for people who are committed to not liking you. No one is perfect and no one has the right to make someone else feel they aren’t good enough. Don’t stoop to their level either. Do not waste any energy being negative and trying to hurt them back. Let them be miserable by themselves.

Realize that some people are just unhappy and dealing with alot of issues in their own life. It’s not your job to fix them and ultimately you can’t fix them. People have to want to change and want different for themselves. Relationships and friendships fall apart, it is apart of life. Everyone isn’t meant to be in your life forever. That is for the best.

Spring cleaning isn’t just about cleaning our houses, it’s also about cleaning the spaces and individuals around us. Don’t let toxic people take up space in your life and in your mind. Let that hurt go. Get rid of things and connections that are no longer serving you. Make room for more positive interactions. The same way your home should be your happy place so should the people around you. Stop holding on to junk.

Inhale the good, Exhale the bullshit.

Thanks for reading & we’ll talk more next week!

As a child I wanted to help the world. I wanted to be a neonatal pediatrician. I wanted to travel the world to help women and children during labor and delivery. I watched a tv special on Oprah about women and children in other countries dying at alarming rates during child birth because of lack of resources and I was inspired to somehow save the world one baby at a time. Since then, my vision has slightly changed. My profession isn’t in medicine but I still want to improve women’s health. My focus is still the same, I still have a dream of changing the world. I have now taken a natural holistic approach to tackling women’s health. Beauty and fashion has been a hobby turned obsession of mine. From reading magazines to wardrobe styling to modeling to orchestrating runway shows I dedicated my whole life to the beauty and fashion industry. As time passed, I began to search for the deeper meaning behind the intricate fabrics, fancy shoes, hair and makeup. I have found that health, beauty and fashion are more connected than I thought. My outlet is writing. Through my writing I hope to spark minds and impact individuals to dig deeper.
