Giving Thanks

Happy Thanksgiving eve everyone!

Unfortunately, I didn’t have today off. I’m at work so shout out to those of us at work waiting to get off and enjoy our holiday. Nevertheless, I am thankful I had a job to come to this morning.

I woke up feeling like blah. My throat is feeling like I might be catching a cold or something so I am trying to take care of this before it gets crazy. BUT I am thankful I woke up this morning.

I am also thankful for the rain we are getting today in Cali. For those of you who don’t live in California, we’ve had a crazy few weeks dealing with huge fires and poor air quality. Finally we are getting some rain so I pray everything clears up soon.

I’ve wrote about the Claim Your Crown Fest events and how exciting yet stressed I’ve been planning everything with my business partner Ayana for the last couple months. Sunday, November 18th was our Oakland Launch Party and it turned out beautiful!! Here are a few sneak peaks from this weekend.

I had all intentions on posting a full recap blog about both events this week but I wanted to give myself some time to rest and put a little more time into writing about the events so stay tuned for the full recap coming soon.

In other news…

I’m SO excited the holidays are here!!

This is my favorite time of the year. I am a very family oriented person. I can’t wait to hang out with my loved ones and eat good home cooked food! I am always thankful for the love and good energy this time of year.

Hands down, my grandma is the best chef I know! One of the guys at work gave me an idea to record her cooking this year so I can have all her recipes for future reference. Genius idea right? Lol I’ll let you guys know how that goes.

Thanksgiving is about spending time with the people you love, being thankful for the simple things, cherishing the special moments, and making memories. We live in such a capitalist society where there’s an overwhelming emphasis on money and material things. Expressing love can sometimes be a hard thing to do especially if it’s something you aren’t used to. The older I get the more I value quality time over gifts. Holiday and family memories are worth way more than anything money can buy.

My friend and I were just saying now that we are older and have moved out of our parents house, we miss the small things we used to do with our family. For instance, sitting down at the table and eating as a family or watching TV together on the couch. I used to run errands with my mom and eat snacks while watching TV with her every weekend. I miss laying in our pajamas under the covers on the couch eating junk food. I know she miss it too because she text me like “guess what I’m doing”. LOL

The holidays are truly a time where I get to feel like a kid again.

Most of the people I work with are older with kids and even grand kids so of course they are like whaaaat you’re not cooking? LOL listen I am not married and I do not have kids yet I am still young and taking full advantage of going to my grandmas house and cuddling up on the couch. But I will be 27 next month so maaaaybee I will help out more in the kitchen this year… maybe.

Speaking of my birthdayΒ it is coming up real fast. Aaron and I are going on a cruise to Mexico. I am hella excited!!! I need to start shopping because it will be here before I know it. I should probably take advantage of the Black Friday sales but I don’t know if I want to be in the midst of all those reckless shoppers.

One last thing before I go… I have a date to see Creed II tonight! Anyone who saw the first movie Creed knows this is a MUST SEE! I will always support my fellow Sac State alum and Bay Area native director Ryan Coogler! He also directed Fruitvale Station and Black Panther so it goes without saying that the man is exceptional! I also have loved Michael B Jordan my whole life so going to see this movie is a no brainer!

Enjoy your holiday. Forget your diets for one day! Eat good. Make lasting memories with the people you love. Drink up!

And for the people who love to rain on the parade every year, I know there’s a whole run down on reasons we shouldn’t celebrate this holiday and I fully understand that. I do not celebrate the holiday for it’s original meaning, I mean who does? F%^k the Pilgrims! I am just thankful for the people in my life, excited about being off work for a few days, and ready to eat some good food.

With that being said… Happy Thanksgiving!!

Thank you for reading & we’ll talk more next week!
