Happy Wednesday everyone,
It’s been a busy busy week preparing for summer camp, holding down my day to day responsibilities plus my personal business projects but you know ya girl got this! 😆
I’m excited about today’s blog post because I will be doing my first unboxing! Lol I will never not be amazed by the amount of support my readers show me. A company actually reaching out to me and asking to send me a box of products is mind-blowing. I feel like a real life blogger or You-tuber now. haha!
But before we get into this unboxing let’s take a moment to breathe in all this Black Girl Magic on these September Issue fashion magazine covers …
“We don’t just move the needle forward, we are the needle” – Lena Waithe
As a fashion junkie, this is a VERY proud moment. I grew up saving my lunch money to buy these very magazines.
Representation Matters !!
I will never stop saying that. I seen posts about “white acceptance” and “white appropriation”… that is absolutely absurd! We deserve to be represented in the top international fashion houses. We deserve to be recognized by an industry that steals most of our culture in the name of “fashion”. *Shoutout to #blackvogue
Little black girls deserve to see women who look like them on magazine stands, in top box office movies, as Disney princesses, fashion designers, fashion photographers, in broadway plays, directing top cinemas, on red carpets, headlining music concerts/festivals, in the tech industry, in astronomy, and everywhere else. Black people work just as hard and sometimes harder, there’s is no reason we should be underrepresented and unappreciated.
Which brings me to my next topic:
Black Womens Equal Pay Day
View this post on Instagram
Today is #BlackWomensEqualPay day. Remember when we had equal pay day on April 10? Yup. That one was for white women. White women have to work an additional three plus months to make up what white men make in a year. But Black women have to work an additional 200 days, which brings us all the way to August. Think about that for a second. The facts are: black women earn 38% less than white men and 15% less than white women. * As always @oprah nails it in this video via @makerswomen. The first time we heard Oprah speak about this, our minds were 🤯, because she puts equal pay into such real life terms. Because right. SAME JOB, SAME PAY RIGHT? But no, that’s not how it works in America. * The next part is for the white feminists in the house. Take today to think about how you can use your skin privilege to effect change. If you employ people, can you employ more WOC? Can you make sure they’re paid as well as their white counterparts? Can you sift through your internal bias (we’ve all got it) as often and as deeply as you can? If you work with WOC, can you negotiate with them? Talk honestly about salary? Insist that your pay in on par with theirs? We are not free till all of us are free, so take today to think about what you can do to aid the struggle, and put WOC first. #38PercentCounts #intersectionalfeminism
So let’s get into this unboxing shall we…
I met J’Maica Thomas back in my college modeling days working with local designers and fashion week events. Recently she messaged me about a business she’s building called The Blacklist. The Blacklist is based in Oakland, CA. It is an all-black-everything lifestyle subscription, funding community through fashion.
Here an exert from their website:
Born from a need to contribute & show the power of the Black dollar, The BLACKlist is an all-Black-everything lifestyle subscription. Each monthly box, curated by carefully selected influencers, features a collection of items that tell our stories, in ways that only we can tell them.
To not be shortsighted, a portion of each subscription goes towards providing funding to organizations serving the Black community. With our Strategic Annual Partnership, one organization will be chosen to receive a years worth of subscription donations to further their mission & continue to do the work to push us further.
Live your best, Black life & ensure that future generations are given the opportunity to do the same.

I received my Blacklist box on Monday. I am SO excited to use every single item in this box! Lol I’ve been patiently waiting for my box for about 2 weeks. (We both were super busy) I had no idea what would be in the box, all I knew was J’Maica asked me my t-shirt size.
Once I received my box I was so impressed with how personalized the items are. Every gift is perfectly tailored to fit my lifestyle…
First off, anyone who knows me know I looooove the color blue so the fact that soon as I opened it I realized everything was black and blue. Love at first sight!!
First item that caught my eye was the ‘Blog Like A Boss’ candle… because duh! That has Talisha written all over it. Not only because I am a blogger but because I love candles and the color blue. lol
Next items in the box are a personal note from J’Maica ❤ and this ‘the future is BLACK’ t-shirt!
This ‘I Like My Culture How I Like My Coffee’ Mug really made my day because everyone at my new office has cute mugs that fit their personalities and I haven’t got around to finding one I love. Finally I have a mug to bring to work!! Lol
I’ve been getting so many positive comments and messages about my book reviews. I’ve also motivated others to start a yearly reading challenge. Which I love promoting healthy habits that will help people learn and grow. With reading being my favorite past time you guys can imagine I was real excited to see a book in my box! Especially because this is a book from auntie Oprah’s book club !
An American Marriage, by Tayari Jones, available on Amazon
All this black magic made my heart smile. lol
I am always happy to support my fellow black entrepreneurs especially those helping to empower and enrich the community. I am even more proud when it is someone I know and consider a friend. Keep working hard! Your hard work doesn’t go unnoticed. I know the struggle is real but it’s always worth it.
With that being said, the box is set to launch next month, and the list to subscribe is open now!
