Happy National BBQ Day

Happy Wednesday guys!

tumblr_omnypj9qM11tfqlfqo1_400It’s Independence Day in America but haven’t been feeling patriotic these days.

But… the party still goes on! My off day will be spent partying and watching fireworks like everyone else.

There’s no harm at all in pigging out on BBQ, potato salad, macaroni and cheese, fruit, popsicles, margaritas, cold beers, and whatever other sides you’d prefer. Everyone deserves to relax and have a good time even if we don’t choose to celebrate this screwed up country. Since it’s our off day I won’t go into detail and discuss the craziness going on in Trump’s America. Let’s just bask in this beautiful summer day instead.

Side note: Enjoy the fireworks and firecrackers today, even this weekend but on behalf of ears everywhere… please do not pop fire crackers all month. I’m begging you!

In other news:

This is my first week at my new job and I love it! Looking forward to going to work and doing what I love everyday is truly indescribable. I believe that every job I’ve had in the past prepared me for this position. Marketing, sales, event coordinating, office administration, and creative thinking! This first few weeks is usually filled with training but since I started in the middle of summer there are lots of events fast approaching. I’m excited!

APW has no dress code and encourages personal style so I have been motivated to have fun with my wardrobe again. I will be back to working behind the scenes at runway shows and photoshoots, not only in my free time but also at work. I appreciated my time at the Law firm but I definitely felt like I had to “code switch” to fit the industry. So my excitement for my new position is mainly because I get to be myself at work again! It’s been years since I’ve felt this feeling. I think the last time I was when I was visual merchandising at Forever 21. Although it wasn’t my ideal job creatively and style wise I was able to freely express myself.

If you follow me on Instagram you may have noticed my “Inspo” posts on my IG story. I’ve been using Tumblr and Pinterest to find the women I grew up inspired by.

Here’s a some of my childhood W.C.W (Women Crush Wednesday) :

These are the strong beautiful women I grew up watching on the big screen thinking “wow I wanna be like her when I grow up”.

Everyday I am growing more into the woman I’ve always dreamed of becoming. I’m taking life one day at a time but we all need reminders of how far we’ve come. Watching fierce women has always gave me the motivation to go harder.

Reminder: Always be you, unapologetically

My personal style has evolved from my childhood crushes and my personal fashion icons. I always pull looks from my inspirations and put my own personal spin on it.

I am excited to bring more fashion and style inspiration to my blog. The motivation has been high these days. LOL remind me to stay out of the thrift stores though. I’ve been having too much fun finding new pieces to play with.

Decided to keep the blog short and sweet this week.

May this post and the holiday/summer festivities inspire us all to have more fun with our wardrobe. Reminisce on our childhood crushes and playing dress up. Growing up is difficult sometimes but doesn’t have to be boring. Wink_Emoji.png

Thanks for reading & we’ll talk more next week!

After graduating with my BA in Communications specializing in Public Relations, I gained experience in fashion merchandising, wardrobe styling, event planning, branding, office administration, and marketing. When I'm not working, I am active in the art and fashion community in the Bay Area and throughout California. Working behind the scenes at events like LA Fashion Week, Sacramento Fashion Week, SFA Student Showcase and accompanying costume designers like Michael Costello has helped build my knowledge and business relationships in the fashion world. I am just a fashionista and creative writer, who loves thrifting. I absolutely love all things Beyonce as well. I grew up a book worm so if I'm not binge watching TV shows or listening to podcasts, most likely I have my nose in a book. I started this blog after college as a first generation graduate learning, growing, and struggling to figure life out. In hopes of aligning others on a similar quest, I blog about my journey through career obstacles, the ends and outs of love, surviving gentrification in the Bay Area, the fashion & art community, mental hygiene in the black community, and pop culture. I also give lifestyle tips on natural wellness, natural hair, being a plant mom, and DIY projects. I write as a form of healing and self care, I pray that sharing my journey will help motivate community healing, therapy and growth for black creatives & entrepreneurs.

  1. Where do I start, I am in Agreeance with you on the not feeling so festive. I ended up working, but I don’t feel as though I missed anything special. I also agree that our Country is in turmoil, and it’s hard to celebrate something I don’t feel is even real or truthful. Loved the portion on the women who inspired you. Lastly I’m so proud of you and happy that you are enjoying your new job. I love the fact that your allowed to be yourself, which will allow you to grow and and standout! Keep up the amazing work I’m slowly catching up on your post.
