As you all may or may not know Father’s Day is this Sunday! Happy Father’s Day to all the deserving dads, step dads, god dads, uncles, and father figures out there. Supportive hardworking fathers can make a world of difference in a kids life. Which brings me to this week’s post …

Before we start I have a quick confession to make…

I am a pongonophile.

With that being said in honor of Father’s day, I would like to highlight an all natural beard grooming line. Every product is handmade, packaged and sold by a young black father and entrepreneur. In my search for natural hair and skincare products I came across Malik “The Beard Guy” Moor, the founder of Russ Beard Grooming.
In the past, I’ve bought my boyfriend beard grooming kits from retail stores in the mall but I was intrigued by this particular online brand because not only was it created by a black man, the products all made from shea butter and  aromatherapy essential oils.

Every since I bought Aaron that first RBG beard kit, he has been hooked! LOL he is always receiving compliments on his facial hair. The essential oils just add a special rinse and shine like no other. Beard upkeep is just like natural hair, those curls need to be trimmed, cleaned, conditioned, and moisturized. The key to a great beard is keeping it soft and well groomed.

An added bonus is Malik also created a natural body butter skincare line called Royal Body Glow. The body butters are also made of mostly shea butter and essential oils, which I loveeee. The convenience of being able to order Aaron’s beard oil and my body butter from the same place is a blessing!

The unique scents, fun names, and inspirational quotes on the side of every jar are subtle things that has made this brand of body butters one of my favs!

Here are a few questions I asked Malik about his business and how he got started:

1. What are all the products Russ Beard Grooming / Royal Body Glow provides ?
I currently have 7 body butters, 3 Beard balms, 3 Beard butters, 4 beard oils, 1      beard wash, and 6 lips balms
2. What made you get into the industry? Tell us more about the story behind the brand.
I began experimenting with aromatherapy to combat depression. The business grew organically through experimentation
3. How long have you been in business?
A little over than a year
4. Do you work a 9-5? Is this business your side hustle?
I’m not sure that I’ve ever worked 9-5 lol. But, yes I’m all in with the business.
5. What are you goals for your business/ brand?
I am going to be a staple in every store. I’m going to get Cantu, Aveeno, Burt’s Bees and Shea Moisture up outta here
6. Do you collab with other artists?
J Lyric is a hip hop artist and my friend from high school. We collaborated on a Beard Butter and oil. The next move would be with an artist to put their spin on the actual product design
7. Do you attend events in the community or are you mostly online marketing?
Everything online for now
8. What part has been the most rewarding so far?
When my kids got excited from seeing what their dad created, I knew that I did something big
9. As creatives I believe we all have those moments where we have a creative block or something happens that discourages us. Do you mind sharing a bad experience or struggle you’ve experience while on your journey?
My struggles haven’t been with creativity. I started experimenting with aromatherapy to battle depression. Mental health is the constant battle with me. I am incapable of being productive when I’m not feeling well. So, my daily fight is to find something beautiful and focus on it. Once I find that center of focus, I remind myself that I’m just as beautiful as the thing that I’m focused on. That usually centers me again and then it’s time to melt the Shea butter! Lol
10. What motivates you to keep going? Where do you get inspiration for new projects?

I get the most inspiration from conversations with strangers lol. As crazy as it sounds it’s true. Strangers give you different perspectives than what you’re accustomed to. Post up at a bus stop and shoot the shit with a stranger.

I just wanted to give everyone a good Father’s day gift idea because finding gifts for men can be hard work. Give Zaddy a gift we all can appreciate. LOL #BeardGang

Thanks for reading & we’ll talk more next week!

As a child I wanted to help the world. I wanted to be a neonatal pediatrician. I wanted to travel the world to help women and children during labor and delivery. I watched a tv special on Oprah about women and children in other countries dying at alarming rates during child birth because of lack of resources and I was inspired to somehow save the world one baby at a time. Since then, my vision has slightly changed. My profession isn’t in medicine but I still want to improve women’s health. My focus is still the same, I still have a dream of changing the world. I have now taken a natural holistic approach to tackling women’s health. Beauty and fashion has been a hobby turned obsession of mine. From reading magazines to wardrobe styling to modeling to orchestrating runway shows I dedicated my whole life to the beauty and fashion industry. As time passed, I began to search for the deeper meaning behind the intricate fabrics, fancy shoes, hair and makeup. I have found that health, beauty and fashion are more connected than I thought. My outlet is writing. Through my writing I hope to spark minds and impact individuals to dig deeper.
