Moroccan Tansy

Hi guys and gals!

Happy Wednesday!

If you’ve been keeping up with my blogs you know that I transitioned to natural hair in 2016. Since then, I’ve tried different natural beauty products to figure out which ones work best for me. In my previous post, Just Skin, I discussed different facial cleansers, exfoliators, and face masks I was using. In that blog post I also discussed trying more natural homemade beauty products.

I recently came across the Bay Area based Vegan Skincare line, Moroccan Tansy. All of their skincare products are made with an essential oil known as Blue Tansy, straight from Morocco. After speaking with the founder Monica Lazrek and learning about her family’s story behind their brand I had to try out their products. I am all about supporting women of color entrepreneurs so I was immediately intrigued.

Anas Lazrek (Monica’s husband) was born and raised in Morocco. After dating for 6 months, Anas flew Monica to Morocco to visit his family over their Spring Break. This trip changed their lives in many ways. The two fell in love and was engaged to be married soon after this trip. This was also the start of Moroccan Tansy.

“Going to Morocco you think of the vibrant colors the city of blue and the clay structures blistering red in the African sun.  I was not only humbled by being in my Mother Land but overjoyed that I was starting a new life with my soulmate, Anas aka Mr. Lazrek.
Visiting his grandmother in Marrakech she adorned me with Henna for a pre-ceremonious ritual rich in Moroccan culture and delicacies. Not only that, I was showered with fragrance oils, sweet waters, dates, aker fassi and couscous – I was basking in the harmony and my eyes climaxed at all the vibrant colors around me, the Red Clay, Deep Blue Oil, Bright Yellowish Green Seed Oil, Paprikas, Honey, Bright Green Mint Leaves!
Since then I have been thoroughly amazed at the benefits these traditional Moroccan  remedies.
– Monica Lazrek, CEO Founder of Moroccan Tansy

Growing up in Casablanca, Anas watched his mother distill blue tansy in their kitchen. His grandmother bathed him and his siblings in cooling rose water on hot days. He grew up with essential oils such as argan oil, rose oil, chamomile, henna, and blue tansy. According to the Moroccan Tansy blog, as the co-founder Anas is dedicated to bringing his knowledge and experience to enhance the business development of the company.

Homepage2Monica worked along side Anas’ grandmother, also known as Fatima, to perfect the product formulas for Moroccan Tansy. Fatima is the company’s Product and International Evangelist. She has labored for over forty-years in traditional Berber fashion, farming, harvesting, distilling and nurturing this remarkable essential oil.

While researching blue tansy essential oils, I found an interesting article in Vogue Magazine published in 2016 entitled “Meet the New Floral Oil That Will Radically Change Your Skin: Blue Tansy Oil Anti-Inflammatory Skin Care Ingredient Aromatherapy Benefits”. The article begins with this passage, explaining how blue tansy is becoming a popular essential oil for it’s skin care benefits:

“It’s easy to be a skeptic in the beauty world, where every ingredient is prefaced by the word It and every berry called a “super.” But once in a while, something comes along that holds people’s attention for a little longer—where the blend of efficacy and sheer visual impact sets it a cut above the rest. Case in point: the startlingly aquamarine floral oil called blue tansy. Distilled from a North African flower (its nickname is Moroccan chamomile), the raw material has become a favorite among small-batch skin-care makers…”

I’ve been using the Moroccan Tansy face wash kit for about 2 weeks. I use it twice a day. The face wash kit consists of the blue tansy face wash, hydrosol, and face serum. Here’s the step by step process and my experiences with the products:

Step One: Face Wash – Splash your face with warm water, spray face wash onto your face 4-5 times, and gently work into a lather. Alternately, you can spray face wash into your hands and work into a lather. Rinse thoroughly with cold water and allow face to air dry.

The blue tansy face wash for me, is  different compared to most facial cleansers I’ve used. The wash goes on really lightweight sometimes I wonder if I am using enough. But with the Moroccan Tansy face wash a little goes a long way!

I usually lather for about 30 seconds to 1 minute after that I’ll start to feel my skin tingle. Rinsing with cold water is really refreshing. While my face is air drying I can usually feel my pores tighten up.

Hydrosol.jpgStep Two: Hydrosol – Sprits 2-3 sprays on your face and allow to air dry.

After Step One, I let my face dry almost completely before I spray the Hydrosol. While face wash removes oil, dead skin and dirt, the hydrosol restores the oil back into the face. Again the hydrosol goes on very light but a little goes a long way. It leaves my skin feeling light and dewy.

Step Three: Face Serum – Apply during the day or night. The roller ball allows for ease of application and helps to target areas of damage acne skin and great anti-aging formula! Goes on light and non-greasy perfect for oily to combination skin.

I have acne scars and problems with hyper-pigmenation so the face serum is my best friend. For me, I can feel this final step repairing and moisturizing my skin. I use my face kit in the morning and at night because I wear makeup to work.

The Blue Tansy Face Kit is not heavy on my skin and he natural benefits really helps with my bad allergies. Since the process is so simple and effective I find it easier for me to stay consistent. Even on those long days when I am dead tired I have no problem spraying the cleaners and oils on for a simple cleansing before bed.

Blue Tansy Lip BalmUse everyday for plump moist lips. Use at night to help promote supple full lips.

This lip balm is very gentle on my lips. It’s goes on a lot smoother than most. I definitely love the feel, taste, and smell of this homemade vegan based lip balm.

I will be sure to post updates after a month or two of using the Moroccan Tansy Face Kit. I am also looking forward to trying the Moroccan Tansy Clay Mask which is made with blue chamomile flowers. The flower petals help exfoliate the skin and it comes with a jar of dried flowers for a bath soak!

I may have to dedicate a Self Care Sunday to a blue chamomile facial and bath soak session!

Thanks for reading!!

P.S. Y’all know I’m playing Cardi B’s new CD #InvasionOfPrivacy and Drake’s new single ‘Nice For What’ while using my face kit lol

Congrats Muva Bardi!!!

As a child I wanted to help the world. I wanted to be a neonatal pediatrician. I wanted to travel the world to help women and children during labor and delivery. I watched a tv special on Oprah about women and children in other countries dying at alarming rates during child birth because of lack of resources and I was inspired to somehow save the world one baby at a time. Since then, my vision has slightly changed. My profession isn’t in medicine but I still want to improve women’s health. My focus is still the same, I still have a dream of changing the world. I have now taken a natural holistic approach to tackling women’s health. Beauty and fashion has been a hobby turned obsession of mine. From reading magazines to wardrobe styling to modeling to orchestrating runway shows I dedicated my whole life to the beauty and fashion industry. As time passed, I began to search for the deeper meaning behind the intricate fabrics, fancy shoes, hair and makeup. I have found that health, beauty and fashion are more connected than I thought. My outlet is writing. Through my writing I hope to spark minds and impact individuals to dig deeper.
