Before reading this please know that I am no skin care guru nor am I trying to be. I still have major struggles with my skin. This is simply a short list natural products I’ve tried. I’m working to figure out a skin care routine that works for me. You all are witnessing parts of my journey and there’s no guarantee that what works for me will work for you.
SO lets start …
The part I struggle with when it comes to skin care is the ‘routine’ part. I try products out but I find it difficult to continue using the products daily or even sometimes weekly. Either I get too busy or just lazy. But recently I’ve come across some product’s I’ve been sticking with…
I have really sensitive skin. While transitioning to natural hair I have had one too many bad skin reactions, from trying out new products and beauty brands. So far my skin agrees with Lush’s facial products. *knocks on wood* Eventually I want to tryout more homemade face and hair masks. I also plan on supporting more small black owned natural beauty products, but for now I’m figuring out what works best for me.
I saw great reviews about Lush’s Fresh Face Mask called “Don’t Look At Me“. The mask is blue, my favorite color, and I LOVE the way the mask smells so I couldn’t wait to try it.
I’ve been searching for an cleansing mask that also exfoliates the skin . I have a Charcoal face and body mask from Lush called “Dark Angels”. Although I love the charcoal mask, I’ve been searching for something more gentle for my face.
I purchased the “Don’t Look At Me” mask on black Friday this year and since then I’ve used the mask at least once a week. My goal was to find a mask to help with my hyper pigmentation and acne scars. This mask includes ground rice which gently scrubs away dry skin. And the vitamin C and citric acid in the lemon juice will brighten and lighten the skin over time. I’ve listed the rest of the ingredients below.

Enzymion is a moisturizer I purchased from Lush that helps with oily skin. Citrus fruits like papaya and lemon help mop up excess oils and cleanse your face of dry skin and debris built up throughout the day.

Also on black Friday this year, I picked up a new facial cleanser from Lush called Fresh Farmacy. I was looking for a light weight facial cleanser I can use everyday. Nothing too harsh that will dry my skin out. Well Fresh Farmacy caught my eye because the main ingredients used in the soap bar are chamomile, lavender, tea tree oil and coconut oil. I drink Chamomile tea almost every morning at work to relax. I’ve read that lavendar oil works great for calming that is why it is found in alot of bubble baths and I love the small of tea tree oil. Oh yea and coconut oil is life. Its almost perfect to wake up in the morning and use a facial cleanser that includes a variety of relaxing and calming essential oils. I love it so far and I’ve already had to restock.

The Konjac cleansing sponge I bought from Sephora. It is made from the Konjac root a plant native to warm, subtropical to tropical eastern Asia, from Japan and China south to Indonesia. The Japanese have traditionally used the konjac root as a detoxifying dietary staple, and as a calming, exfoliating sponge for delicate skin. After listening to Fran talk about the Konjac sponge in her Wellness Segment on the FriendZone podcast, I had to try it for myself. I use the Konjac sponge to apply the Fresh Farmacy cleanser on every morning and I can honestly say I am in love with both products.
- Soft and Silky – The material is compared to cashmere or silk
- Hypoallergenic – The hypoallergenic material is able to resist mold, mildew, pests, and doesn’t contain harsh toxins that often irritate the skin
- Anti- Bacterial – 100% bamboo towels retain the anti-bacterial qualities that are in bamboo plants
- Highly Absorbent
- Bamboo cloth are great for babies as well!
I purchased my Aztec Healing Clay at Whole Foods for about 5 dollars. This mask is 100% Bentonite Clay, no added fragrances or oils. I personally have used this mask for my face and body but it can also be used for your hair. One I’ll use it on my hair and let you guys know how that goes.
I have problems with chest and back acne so i also use it on my body. This is a powdered clay some people mix it water but I have found that apple cider vinegar works best for me. Adding honey to the mixture can make the texture of the mask more smooth and silky. The honey can be soothing and cleansing for the skin because raw honey is a natural anti-bacterial.
I will do a separate blog on measurements, applications and different ingredients you can add to the mask for different results. This blog was to simply show a few skin products I found work for me.
Before I go, in honor of my birthday tomorrow listen to Beyonce, Rihanna, Tupac, or Gucci Mane and have a glass of wine for me 😀
